Coming in at number 10 we have the flying monkeys of napa valley i've always wanted to visit the napa valley because wine i love wine people across the world have probably heard or even tasted the californian wine made here but most of you probably will never have heard of rebobs legendary flying monkeys or robots or something in between they are most frequently sighted around patrick road outside of napa itself now according to local law the rebops were made by a mad scientist who tried to combine humans with monkeys although some believe that they're robots created by the government as a distraction from a doomsday bunker they were building nearby some say the monkeys hunt teenagers craving young flesh to satisfy their appetites or pretty wild theories coming in to number nine we have the witch of the black diamond mines it is said that the black diamond mines of the mount diablo coal field is home to the ghost of a girl named mary it seems in the 1870s mary was a nanny but several of the children that she cared for died of illnesses or completely unknown causes mary was then accused of being a witch by the mining community who hung her with little semblance of a trial the town did claim that they found evidence of sorcery rituals at her home but who knows back then honestly they just like burn the witches except they hung her what locals do know is that her spirit still haunts the mind to this day and it is said to be angry mary wants revenge and i kind of understand coming into number eight we have this smoke of the claremont out in berkeley california there is an old historic hotel called the claremont the original hotel was built in the 1800s but burnt down as a result of a fire ten years later a new claremont was built and opened great except the smell of smoke has never left it seems that smoky fragrances waft through the halls late at night oh and if you travel to the fourth floor you may or may not meet one of the victims of the fire a little girl who particularly likes to hang out in room four two two coming into number seven we have the san diego chilapa it seems that san diego may be home to a creature in the ilk of the tubacabra bigfoot the sasquatch or the abominable snowman i really like the word abominable abominable chillapa is said to be a creature that many say they've heard crying late at night it's said that the beast stalks san diego and feeds off the weak including any children it can sink its teeth into or homeless people unlucky enough to encounter the menace 30 mysterious deaths seem to have been blamed on the creature although that being said in february 2012 san diego residents breathed a sigh of relief as they thought that the monster had washed up dead on mission beach have a little look at the pictures and tell me what you think honestly i hope that there aren't any baby chulapas out there around willing to continue mummy or daddy's work because that looks horrible abominable coming in at number six we have the boy of grouse lake i would love to go to yosemite national park and do some hiking but of course the sprawling 3000 square kilometer park is filled with myths and legends ever since the mid-1800s reports of a whaling sound have been noted around grouse lake it seems in 1857 yosemite's first park ranger galen clark heard the cries and went to investigate it seems that clark kept hearing the noises and thought that it may well be a dog or an animal so decided to ask a local first nations tribe if they had lost a dog or any member of livestock legend has it that they responded to tell him that actually it was no dog and under no circumstances should he go near the water why well it was haunted by a first nations boy who had fallen in and drowned to this day he is said to call out to those who pass by but if anyone goes into the water to help him or investigate he will grab their feet and pull them into the lake until they drown just like he did coming into number five we have toys r us of sunnyvale i feel like toys r us had bigger issues than a californian branch store haunting what with its spate of closures but nonetheless the sunnyvale california location is said to be haunted by a poltergeist poltergeist in a kid's shop honestly i can't think of anything worse i actually used to work in a massive toy shop in london as a princess long story but sometimes we would do sleepovers for kids overnight and there really is nothing scarier than a toy shop during the darkness because your imagination kind of runs wild with all the scenarios in which the toys could come to life and like i don't know bite your ankles either way scary right i think it's scary but just ask the night staff here at this toys r us now legend has it that the poltergeist came about after kids broke into the store and snatched an ouija board off the shelves holding an impromptu seance and accidentally unleashing a spirit spooky coming into number four we have the albinos of hicks road it seems that hicks road in san jose is a strange place with an even stranger legend attached to it locals believe that the road which runs between los gatos and twin creeks is haunted not by ghosts but by so-called hostile albinos rumors of the clan began circulating in the 1970s and it said that they are violent to passers-by and will stop cars and attack people with improvised weapons there aren't accounts of them murdering anyone just generally displaying hostility and creepy behavior the legend says that they eat roadkill and they have been spotted dragging away dead deer into the hills coming into number three we have haunted disneyland disneyland california opened in 1955 in anaheim actually went twice with landon and danny two and three years ago here's a picture of us along with michael mccrudden and charlotte dobre of io having a lovely time it's a good time there are balloons despite it being the magic kingdom the park is filled with urban legends the most enduring is that actually disneyland is haunted by the ghost of none other than walt disney himself who is said to stalk the park at night he's also said to regularly visit his old apartment above the fire station on main street it is also said that the it's a small world ride is haunted with the dolls moving and switching places with others some say that the haunted house actually is haunted not by one of the ghosts that it looks like a kind of there but by a little boy apparently his ashes were scattered or something along those lines others say that the secret club 33 is the illuminati headquarters honestly disneyland is so filled with urban legends we've made a whole video about it so you should check that out coming into number two we have the legend of the black dahlia the death of elizabeth shaw was no legend it actually happened in 1947 the budding 23 year old starlet was found cut in half and severely mutilated her killer had drained her blood and scrubbed her body clean and then laid it out meticulously the case totally stumped the lapd with the lead investigator brian carr saying i just can't imagine someone doing that to another human being the murder was front page news for months and elizabeth's connection with hollywood made it glamorous in a very macabre way the killer was never found and her death is one of the oldest cold cases in la it was after she died that the rumors and the legends were born some say she was a high-class escort killed by a lover some say she was involved with a satanic cult and various news outlets had elaborated opinions on what had happened to her body i guess we can't really go into it too much but some think that she was covered in cigarette burns and others say they think that she was forced to eat her own feces somehow she was dubbed the black dahlia and books were written about her a 2006 movie was made about her starring scarlett johansson and mia kirschner finally coming in to number one we have the cursed hotel cecil some say that all 600 rooms of the cecil hotel are cursed building has now been rebranded the state on main to avoid associations with its dubious past the black dahlia herself was said to have drunk at the hotel before she met her grisly demise there is a whole wikipedia page about deaths and violence at the cecil hotel and on a quick glance i count 16 grizzly incidents and those are just the reported ones many of the stories involve suicide by jumping from the top of the building others involve poison the hotel was also said to be the home of serial killers richard ramirez and jack unterweger the hotel made headlines in 2013 when a canadian tourist elisa lam went missing after staying there a video was posted of her from an elevator security camera by police as this was the last time she was seen alive now the video is actually very scary to watch she's seen acting exceptionally strangely very very very strangely indeed she presses a number of the buttons in the elevator and the doors fail to close she's seen peering out of the elevator and looking really scared she's sensing trying to hide in the corner she then exits the elevator and seems to be pleading with someone invisible outside of the door the footage ends with her walking out of shot and the elevator door opening and closing a number of times on the 19th of february her body was found by hotel maintenance workers who had come to investigate issues with the hotel water pressure now it seems that she was dead in the water tank and had been dead for weeks the water tank was used for drinking and bathing water for other hotel guests what happened to alyssa and is the hotel cursed i'm gonna go with i don't know sounds like it in it number 10. we have elsa bonn in this urban legend we have a very spoiled teenager one day he ordered his father to go hunting and bring him back a deer because he was craving dear hearts because people crave that this is so gross i don't know about you guys but i usually crave things like mcdonald's uh like the big mac no onions and i usually don't crave deer hearts this is a little bit weird but you know what i'm not here to judge so when the father returned home empty-handed the boy murdered his father and called blood removed his heart and liver and gave it to his mother to cook i mean what the heck this kid is savage once his mother realized that the strange meat was her dead husband she punished him by whipping and throwing hot pepper on the wounds and then she sent an angry dog after him to continue on with the punishment so now elsa bond well he's described as a thin tall ghost who is known for his destructive whistling he likes to carry a bag of bones from all of his victims and if you hear him whistling it means that it is too late and you are his next target i guess i'm going to be carrying around the whip and hot pepper sauce if i'm ever in a colombian forest you know to protect myself el hombre buffalo swims onto our list at number 9. this next urban legend is a little bit weird and it might make you want to avoid dolphins in the near future i mean these cute little creatures well have you guys ever seen the pink dolphin this is a legend about a handsome warrior who was condemned to become a pink dolphin by the gods they were extremely jealous of his good looks and they thought this was a good way to get rid of the competition but with every curse there is always some sort of upside the warrior also was given the ability to convert into a man when he comes out of the water and onto the land but he had to wear a hat to cover up his blowhole seems legit to me so anyways this man goes around town lures unsuspected women and impregnates them the next day they have no recollection of what happened and within a few weeks they discovered that they are pregnant i guess this happens to a lot of women in colombia because many children who are born without a known father actually have dolphin men registered as her father on official government records i mean that that is just the weirdest thing ever la madre monty or otherwise known as mother mountain climbs onto this list at number eight sounds peaceful right well you're wrong she lives in the jungle and baits in the river but when she does she causes flooding and heavy storms to nearby villages and cities madre monty will haunt people who steal land and she will curse them so that they don't have a successful harvest she also hates unfaithful spouses baggers and troublesome people so she punishes them by placing a lot of objects in their way when they walk through the jungle they will eventually fall asleep from all the physical exertions but they won't wake up so basically if you're good and a decent human being she won't bother you but if you annoy her prepare to face the consequences jumping into number six is el hombre caiman translated to english el hombre cayman means alligator man he had a really unhealthy obsession with watching women as they bathed in the river so he decided to visit a sorcerer who prepared a potion that was temporarily converted him into an alligator so that the women bathing in the river wouldn't be suspicious or feel like they were being watched the sorcerer prepared two potions one that would turn him into an alligator and another one that would turn him back into a man while one thing led to another as he was transformed into an alligator the other potion broke and spilled so now he has a body of an alligator and a human head and since then women were horrified and too scared to bathe on the river but now it is believed that el hombre caiman returns every saint sebastian's day to hunt for victims lao lorona brings us to number five according to his legend she used to be a poor peasant girl who fell in love with the rich noblemen their relationship was hidden from the rest of the world and they ended up having several children together when the girl asked the nobleman to get married he refused because their children were born out of wedlock so in a desperate attempt to be with the man that she loved the girl drowned her children in the river when she told the nobleman what she had done she still refused to be with her the girl was full of grief and desperation so she actually went back to the river and drowned but because of her crime she was cursed to roam the rivers looking for children for all eternity so it is believed that the weeping women wanders the river beds at night looking for children to take them away and it is believed that she is an omen of death to those who see or hear her so yeah don't be lurking around rivers of nighttime and colombia latunda breaks onto this list at number four if you explore the colombian jungles you might come across a woman with a wooden leg well if you see that make sure you guys be aware i would just turn around she is capable of shape-shifting into someone that you know so that she can lure you further into the jungle and once you're in her mercy she will feed you shrimp that she has prepared especially just for you okay that doesn't sound so awful does it well i mean i'd rather prefer chicken but i'll take the free shrimp any day well while you're eating she hypnotizes you so that she can do whatever she wants she mostly likes to suck on all of your blood or devour you like a wild animal so yeah i guess it's better to avoid her at all costs regardless of the free shrimp because maybe it's not worth it snatching number three is el mohan let's travel to the depth of the amazon rainforest where you might find ella mohan he is an extremely hairy creature with long claws that is capable of shape-shifting and he likes to abduct young girls to have his way with them oh and sometimes he has really red eyes and gold teeth he also enjoys capsizing boats in order to steal their bait and fishing equipment and is it just me or does the amazon river sound like the scariest place on earth it literally has anacondas piranhas sharks tarantulas now this scary creature i don't think i'm going to be visiting the amazon rainforest anytime soon alapolo malegno makes its way onto this list at number two so this translates to the evil chicken and i know this doesn't sound that scary but trust me you don't want your chicken to be evil this urban legend is pretty intense the evil chicken is an extremely mischievous creature that looks like a typical bird except this thing is huge it will use some sort of whistling trick in order to attract people to their hunting grounds once their unsuspected victims is in sight the evil chicken will devour them whole according to this urban legend the only way to get rid of this chicken is to pray to saint miguel nine times or you know you can avoid any whistling sounds in the near future if you hear a whistling go the opposite way albarraro fights its way into this listen number one this ugly creature has backwards feats that are used to confuse its prey he is extremely tall has pale skin but is covered with black fur he has large ears red eyes and huge fangs this definitely doesn't sound like a creature that i would want to run into so basically albarro will use two ways to kill his victims first he will use his urine which acts like a lethal poison and secondly if he manages to catch you he will use his arms to squeeze your body into a pulp and then he'll drink you through a small hole that he makes in his victim's head but luckily for us he has no joints in his knees so if you can somehow make him fall down you have a good chance to get away because he can't get up starting off number 10 now we have the gosford glyphs a little outside of sydney like the gosford glyphs a series of rock engravings that have perplexed and scared people for many years legends says they were carved 5 000 years ago by ancient egyptians who visited australia the people who put forward this theory claimed that the ancient egyptians were able to build powerful ships across the oceans when they reached australia they left the gospel glyphs as a symbol of their achievement critics of this theory say it's all an elaborate hoax made by people just a few decades ago however a couple of academics have claimed that some of the ancient symbols found there were very accurate and were not actually documented in egyptian hieroglyphic texts until 2012. does this mean it's all true who knows but the legend lives on next up number nine now we have the crybaby serial killer the story goes that in sydney many years ago a chill caught the air in the dead of night it was silent outside of a woman's home but then the silence was broken by the piercing sound of a baby's cry the woman couldn't see anyone outside her door she could only hear the crying baby her instinct was to go outside and help the baby but she just felt like something wasn't quite right she called the police who told her to not open the door under any circumstances and then they hung up the crying noise then began to move around the outside of the house it moved to the window she called the police again this time they told her there was a serial killer who had done this before he would play a recording of a crying baby outside someone's window when they came to investigate he would murder them she wasn't going to be the next victim and barricaded herself inside until the police arrived but the crying had already faded into the distance from number eight now we have the underworld every city has tunnels and sewers sprawling underneath it but sydney might have something else many people will tell you of a subterranean world that has been home to all kinds of dark criminal activities everything from smuggling kidnapping and murders have taken place there since the city was founded perhaps one of the most famous examples is lake saint james a dingy pool of water that lies beneath macquarie street station if the creepy albino eels aren't enough to creep you out then the stories of secret military operations being carried out there certainly will next up number seven now we have the panther for many years residents of western sydney have claimed that there is a black panther stalking the suburbs this rumor became reality though in recent years in 2018 a man called greg cully took this picture while with his 13 year old son they had heard a strange rustling in nearby bushes and then heard a loud thud now at first they thought they had sighted a kangaroo then they got a closer look it was a large shiny black animal as big as a german shepherd but it moved like a cat this was the second alleged sighting reported that year but this time there were pictures as far back as 2003 even the local government was forced to admit that it was likely there was a colony of big cats lurking in the bushes on the very edge of sydney moving on to number six now we have bridge bodies sydney harbour bridge is one of australia's most famous sites every day tourists from all over the world walk along it or snap pictures of it but many of them aren't aware of a very grim story attached to it now according to legend during the construction of the bridge three building contractors had tragic accidents here's where the story tends to split some people say that the builders actually fell into the pylons and because everyone was working so hard they just didn't notice the other story is a bit more sinister they say that the builders died and their bodies were put inside the bridge to avoid an investigation and the bridge not being completed either way people who share this legend agree that those workers bodies are still sealed away in the bridge somewhere and their spirits haunt it at night in revenge of this injustice moving on number five now we have the girl on the highway if you head out to wakehurst parkway near middle creek bridge you'll find locals who will tell you the bridge is haunted they say that the spirit of kelly wanders along it she can be seen in a white dress by the side of the road watching drivers as they pass by but that's not all some say that she appears inside people's cars and that's not all there's also only one way to get rid of her you have to verbally inform kelly that she is not wanted if you don't she will make your car stop working on the spot and i don't want to know what happens next next on the before now we have the giant lake there are some people in sydney who claim that there is a giant lake underneath hyde park it's a disconcerting thought knowing there could be a large body of water just lurking underneath you but it's a legend that people do believe they say that in the 1920s additional platforms for the city circle line were built but never used urban explorers have gone down there in recent years and documented a massive tunnel network that leads to what they think is a huge subterranean lake underneath the city's famous park the lake is said to be six meters deep in part with foul stagnant water this environment has attracted some horrific creatures some of them not even recognizable to the explorers who have ventured down there coming in number three now we have a devil among us this is a very famous urban legend that comes from 1979 while waiting for a ferry to take them to luna park the godson family were approached by a satanic looking figure dressed in a loincloth and wearing a mask and horned headdress and you wouldn't believe this story if it weren't for one thing they took a picture with this man thinking he was just some sort of local entertainer the thing is nobody in the area had encountered him that day when people saw the picture nobody had ever seen him before and nobody saw him after that day now this story may have just slipped into history if it weren't for one thing the tragedy that befell the godson family that day within a few hours of this picture being taken the boy in the photo his brother and their dad were all killed on the luna park ghost train when a fire ripped through the ride killing seven people in total conspiracy theorists claimed that the devil man's appearance that day was no accident and that he was linked or even responsible for the tragedy of the godson family next up number two now we have the hawkesbury river monster if you head a little north of sydney you'll find the hawkesbury river and the story of a monster that calls it home some say it's the long-lost cousin of the loch ness monster a snake-like creature grayish black up to 24 meters long that lays its eggs inland before slinking back off into the waters in recent years there's been quite a lot of sightings and people have formed societies around its legend they say it's like a prehistoric pleosure that's been attacking humans for hundreds of years aboriginal tribes have spoken about it for much longer than that and people have no doubt the creature will surface again in the future and finally number one now we have the bankstown bunker this is a famous military bunker that has been left to urban explorers to pick up the pieces of what really happened down here it was built for military operations during the second world war a three-story deep labyrinth with a maze of rooms inside after it served its purpose the bunker was forgotten for decades until it was rediscovered almost in pristine condition in the 1970s since then the interior was completely gutted by a fire but the bunker still stands it's hard to get into and very easy to get lost in people who have ventured there have returned with stories that will send shivers down your spine still it may be the only chance that some people get to ever see a military bunker in person even if it is terrifying starting off at number 10 now we have the jake bird hex jake bird was a convicted murderer and self-confessed serial killer who was executed for the murders of a woman and her teenage daughter in tacoma washington in 1947. it's thought that he may have killed up to 46 people though because of his heinous crimes he's fairly well known among people in that area of washington but what's made him really famous around the world is the story of his bird hex after his conviction was announced bird was allowed to make a final statement he spoke for 20 minutes about how he hadn't been allowed to represent himself in court and that his lawyers were against him then he said i'm putting the jake bird hex on all of you who have anything to do with my being punished mark my words you will die before i do naturally people just sort of laughed it off but after bird was executed you guessed it people started dying they didn't die before he did obviously but allegedly six people connected with the trial died including the judge who died within a month of sentencing bird so too did one of the officers who took his first confession a police officer who took the second confession also died then the court's chief clerk then one of bird's prison guards and even his lawyer died on the first anniversary of bird sentencing cosmic coincidence or was the bird hex really real next up number nine now we have 13 steps to hell east of seattle lies the famous maltby cemetery it's famous because it's said to have 13 steps that lead down to hell or at least they used to be there legend says that these stairs led down to the tomb of a wealthy local family now if someone walked down them everything would go silent around them when they reached the bottom step and turn around they would have a vision of hell people who were watching them in this moment reported seeing them collapse to their knees screaming in terror at something they just couldn't see the vision was said to drive the person insane if it was children who went down these steps and saw hell many of them were said to return almost in a coma never able to speak again if this sounds too creepy well don't worry it's been reported that the steps no longer exist they were bulldozed or filled in with concrete years ago that hasn't stopped the legend from spreading though and many people still visit cemetery each year and try and unearth these steps to take a trip down to hell themself next up number eight now we have mount rainier's saucer in 1947 a pilot discovered a u.s marine transport plane that had crashed in mount rainier national park after reporting it he took off again on his journey to yakima suddenly he saw a bright flashing light in the night sky he was worried that he had flown dangerously close to another plane but found nobody else nearby then more bright lights appeared one of the lights passed in front of him he described them as crescent-shaped objects that looked like sources skipping on the water it was this description that literally gave us the term of flying saucer he reported the story to his family and friends and then that story began to spread all over the country now despite its fame nobody has been able to explain what he saw that night and if there really is something strange going on at mount rainier moving on to number seven now guys we have sr 900 that's the name of this road that runs through washington from isaqua to renton for starters people just say it's very creepy in general the road runs through a lot of dark forests over the years there's been a lot of car accidents at night there because the roads wind precariously through these dark areas with no street lights at all if you drive along in the early hours of the morning there's a good chance you'll find that you're the only person there many people report a very creepy feeling washing over them on this road sometimes this takes on a physical manifestation like a person appearing by the side of the road as fog swirls around them it's a golden oldie that one it appears everywhere never get tired of it or maybe you are moving number six now there we have bigfoot according to some reports washington has the highest number of bigfoot sightings at 537 since records began that's over a hundred more than the second place state it's southern neighbor california now in case you don't know what or who a bigfoot is it's a hairy upright walking ape-like creature in north american folklore it's said to have an almost mythical quality and dwells only in the wilderness leaving almost nothing behind besides footprints and tufts of hair one of the most famous bigfoot encounters in washington occurred in 1924 near mount st helens a group of gold prospectors claimed to have fought a group of seven foot tall bigfoot who threw boulders at them they said these giant creatures moved like humans but must have weighed over 400 pounds one of the men fired his gun at the creatures toppling one off a cliff that night they heard huge stones slamming against their cabin and felt giant bodies hitting against the walls and doors as you already know this certainly wasn't the first bigfoot encounter in the state of washington next up number five now we have the oxford saloon i found this story from a reddit user who said that this saloon is just a few blocks down from their workplace the oxford saloon is a bar that's been in the town of snohomish for over 100 years legend says that many years ago a policeman called henry was stabbed to death there while trying to break up a fight they say his ghosts remained attached to the building harassing guests and scaring them at the bottom of the basement steps in modern times the second floor of the building became offices but they say the saloon ghost still remains there too this includes a man in a bowler hat and two female spirits kathleen the madame for the brothel back in the day and emilia one of her ladies of the night they say that a long time ago amelia's body was mysteriously found in a closet all cramped up and stuffed in there horrible stuff these days paranormal investigators report strange experiences at the saloon involving ghostly voices and strange images that show up in photographs next up in the before now we have dryden hall this is a famous hall that first opened in 1965 at spokane university now despite its relatively young age it's already gained a bit of a reputation as a haunted place within the area the story goes on the outer wall of the north wing a mysterious screaming face can be seen at night now initially people just brushed it off as a trick of the light because it could only be seen at night the thing is though the groundskeepers reportedly kept changing the position of the lights but the face would always appear these days every single year a new match of students have the story passed on to them and still the streaming face remains moving on number three now we have the trees olympic national park is a massively popular tourist site for those visiting washington you can see why i'm sure from these pictures but locals have always told stories about an unsettling feeling they get among some parts of the dense undergrowth there many of the famous trails are said to be haunted by a powerful unknown entity believers in this often point to a very strange event that took place there in february 2018. park officials were baffled one morning to find an extremely powerful force had knocked down over 100 trees now what's also strange is the fact that weather data shows nothing out of the ordinary occurred the night before many of the trees were also broken near the base which would require an immense amount of force the amount of trees that had gone down was inconsistent too in some areas nearly every tree was down but in other areas half the trees were untouched was a mystery let's hope some of you guys have a rational explanation for all of this moving on number two now we have the winged man by all intents and purposes marina high school in everett washington is a normal school of some 3000 students many of the students are aware though of a particularly strange urban legend there they say that in the school around midnight the lights are supposed to still be on but on some nights the lights would just shut off if you watch from outside of the school they say you'll get the feeling that someone is watching you from inside and then you'll see it the eyes just a set of floating eyes it's too dark to see a body and then the eyes will start to glow legend says that if you keep staring for long enough the glow will begin to illuminate the rest of the body you will see a man with wings there aren't many reports of what happens after people see the wings man i imagine they just turn around and run and finally number one now we have mel's hole years ago a man named mel waiters called into the art bell radio show claiming he had discovered an infinitely deep hole on his property near ellensburg he said that he tied fishing lines together and continued lowering it down the hole it reached 15 miles apparently without hitting any ground that's a depth of some 80 000 feet it gets crazy though mel claimed that the hole had the ability to restore life to dead animals you heard me he told the story of a man's dead dog that was thrown into the pit and then found walking around alive soon after people became obsessed with finding this hole but mel refused to tell people where it was a while later a local paper reported that no man named mel waiters even existed in the area and mel wasn't even around to defend his own existence as he was never heard from again fell down the hole who knows the whole thing is very strange coming into number nine we have the vending machine at the university libra de brussels which is located obviously in brussels there's an urban legend going around the former student got their arms stuck in a vending machine mechanism and had to have it amputated it seems that the student's snack got stuck so they tried to reach in and grab their food but it got stuck and horribly mangled in the machine but they ended up having to lose their arm while this may be circulated in brussels i feel like this isn't necessarily unique to belgium i've heard this kind of urban legend before especially from parents who don't want their kids getting stuck honestly i think when it comes to vending machines the bigger risk would it be falling on you when you kick it cause your coke hasn't come out coming into number eight we have the buck riders ah the buck riders they're a very old belgian legend indeed they're ghosts or demons or a demonic presence that rode through the sky on the back of flying goats gifted to them by satan of all of the sentences i thought i would say today in 1774 a man by the name of joan van musan claimed to be a buck rider and threatened a farmer blackmailing him for money it seems that a genuine gang of thieves operates in this time in east belgium and the southern part of the netherlands these gangs would raid farms and peaceful communities now some of the raiders were caught and admitted to being a satanic buck rider as a result they were sentenced to death coming into number seven we have the scent of brussels this urban legend crops up over both france and belgium especially in cities like paris and brussels the stories often take place in busy streets a kind of busy bustling european street you could expect to find in the mid-19th century a woman would be lured by market sellers offering her cut-price perfumes she'd then follow them down an alley to smell their wares wait that sounds pretty dirty anyway she would follow them and they would get her to smell perfume but in actuality it turned out to be chloroform which would knock her out cold this story branches off but in the best case scenario for the woman it's just her purse that's stolen in the worst generally she's raped coming into number six we have the hitcher with hairy hands this is a really weird urban legend like super super weird the story goes that a woman is returning from a movie theater and gets back into her car parked in a dark parking lot as she goes to drive off she notices a little old lady in the back seat confused she's like hey old lady what are you doing in the back of my car she notices that the old lady is kind of weepy and the woman responds that actually she got lost when seeing a film with her grandson and got scared alone in the car park she asked if she could have a lift home who refuses a little lost old lady the driver takes pity on her and decides to drive her home but at one point the old lady gestures that she wants the driver to turn left and she shows part of her hand and arm the driver notices that actually she's mysteriously hairy casting a few peeks into the rear view mirror she notices that the woman's hands were very very hairy kind of manly hairy isn't long before the driver realizes that actually the little old lady is a man in disguise panicked she sees a bus and decides to crash into it she runs to the bus driver to ask him for help when she gets back to the car this so-called old lady has vanished when the police come later they investigate the car and find chloroform and chainsaws in the back basically the story goes that actually the butcher of mons was suspected to have been in the area and the driver could have been the next victim so speaking of the butcher of mons this is actually one of those urban legends that's true but it sparked all kinds of other chatter i think we should talk about it at number five so the butcher of mons was a very real belgian serial killer who was active between january 1996 and july 1997 near the belgian city of mons the killer murdered women and chopped them up placing them in plastic bags and leaving them in visible locations along highways and such the parts in the bags belongs to a number of different women all from the noc heist region the bags 12 in total showed up between march 1997 and april 1998 with all five murder victims i'd eventually identified the women were all aged between 22 to 42. despite decades of investigation the murderer has never been apprehended which has obviously left imaginations to run wild over that part of europe less dark still scary still in mons at number four we have the angel of mons the angel of mons is an old world war one tale from the battle of mons now during the first world war much of belgium was dug up for trenches and the country became a very tightly fought battleground it was the gateway to the rest of the west one such famous battle was the battle of mons itself which took place at the onset of war in august 1914. now it seems that british soldiers came under fire from a surprise attack from the german troops and found themselves cornered it seems that when the situation seemed very dire many soldiers believed that they saw winged creatures in the sky somehow the british managed to win the battle when the legend goes that this is because angels came down along with saint george the patron state of england they came down to fend off the grey army and lead a british victory another war legend up next could this have been the origin of george r.r martin's white walkers maybe they're coming into number three so this legend is often referred to as the legend of the white cavalry in 1918 a british captain captain hayward saw a band of germans throwing grenades and shooting at an empty piece of land after fighting the empty space they fled obviously terrified now the english soldiers captured them and questioned them about the strange battle it seems that they were convinced that they were fighting a strange army in white riding white horses they described these men as being death-like was this just a hallucination of war or was there something else going on coming in to number two we have the needles back in the 1980s at the height of people's sphere of hiv there were scare-mongering vicious rumors circulated that people were leaving contaminated blood needles in seats at movie theaters now the most discussed theater is the ugc de bruja the legend said that a madman would leave hiv-infected needles in chairs and then when you went to investigate there'd be a note saying welcome to the world of hiv honestly awful awful but pretty untrue i can't find any reference for this actually ever happening it's just an awful aids scare and a popular urban legend finally coming into number one a classic ghost story we have the eyes always a spooky forest in an urban legend video classic urban legend so the eyes is the more frequently used name for a spirit called de ogen this is a malicious force that haunts the sonian forest at the southeast edge tip of brussels the organ or the eyes is said to be one large foggy shadow followed by smaller foggy shadows the legend began in 1937 when nearby nuns started finding burned bodies of young children in the forest although the exact number of deaths and the truth of the tale is pretty sketchy either way if you come across the fog in the forest you may want to get out of there for fear of being taken away and murdered by the eyes you.
